On the 27th of May 2025 we went onto The Waverley. Once we got on (which was scary!) we put our bags away. After that we went to the engine room and it was very loud. (Tyler)

We went on the Waverley the last paddle steamer and it is coming up to be 80 years old. We sailed from Tobermory in a loop to the Ardnamurchan lighthouse and back. We went in to the engine room to have a look at how the paddles worked and there were three different wheels spinning around inside. It was very hot inside the engine room because of everything working together. Mostly we were outside though. We saw an eagle and the scenery was pretty. (Hannah)

On Tuesday I went on the Waverley from Tobermory. I went to the boat with my mum but I went around with Isla, Harrison and Clare which was fun because Harrison knew some facts like The Waverley can hold over 900 people! I thought it was fun going to the bottom floor because it felt like a washing machine. I also enjoyed looking at the jellyfish with Isla. (Anna)

We sat outside, I sat next to Hannah and Òran. As the boat started to move, Ms Bidwell asked if we wanted to see the engine room. Hannah and I said yes with a few others. Inside the engine room it was a bit noisy. We watched the engine turn, I thought that the engine would be a bit like a cars but it was three metal things (that I don’t know the name of) spinning slowly but one of the crew pulled a lever and it went faster. (Lucille)

I got onto the Waverley and me, Anna, Harrison and my Mum went to the front of the boat and looked over the railing. As we set off we went down to the engine room and it was really warm. When we went back out it smelt like fish and chips. We sailed from Tobermory, just before we got to Muck it got too choppy so we turned around but I’m not too sure where we went. After that we just headed back to Tobermory. (Isla)

When we got to Craignure I saw the Waverley and we did a race! When we got to Tobermory we won because we had to wait for it to arrive. We got on it, I saw a dolphin and then it got really wavy and we had to turn around. (Layla)

The Waverley is the world’s last paddle boat powered by steam going through the propellers. Its 78 years old. I enjoyed exploring the ship. We played hide and seek and I ate Pringles. It was my second time on the boat. I looked at the engine, it was noisy. (Leo)

The Waverley was very fun because it was wavy. (Jayden)
