On Wednesday we had a CPR session online as part of Save A Life Day. As we got on, a guy greeted us and said to get a stuffed toy or a cushion thick enough to do chest compressions.

The video taught us how and what to do if someone collapses on the floor:

First, you check if there’s anything near by that can hurt you or the person.

Second, you lean above them and tilt their head back and check if they are breathing or not by leaning closer to see if you can feel warmth. If you can, that means they are breathing, if not then they’re not. You can also tell if they’re breathing by there chest; if it moves up and down, they are breathing. If not, then start CPR.

Third, to make the CPR grip, you put one hand in front of the other and grasp it with the other hand. Start pushing hard but not too hard on the persons chest. When you you’re doing CPR start shouting for someone to call 999 and get help.

If you can see a defibrillator, ask calmly for someone to get it for you. Once you have the defibrillator, open it up. As soon as you open the lid and turn it on, it will start telling you what to do. Throughout the instructions it might say ‘press the orange button to deliver shock’. After it has said that, you should have two pads that deliver the shock. Once you press the button, the machine will say ‘shock delivered’ then you continue CPR if it says ‘start CPR’. Hopefully the emergency services arrive quickly and will help or take over from you.
