π Learning for Sustainability Week π
After we had identified our trees, we looked into how we can calculate the Carbon Capture from them.
To work this out, P6/7 measured the circumference of 3 trees, they chose the oak tree, one of the willow trees and one of the apple trees. They even enjoyed some tree hugging!
We used the measurements and a carbon calculator to work out how much carbon is being stored in these trees.
The Oak tree captures 982g
The willow tree captures 53g
The apple tree captures 604g
Just from these 3 trees, 1639g of carbon is being captured within our playground!
Amazing to think how much all of our 73 trees are capturing in our environment!
The children were able to share their ideas that the older the trees get, the bigger they become and more carbon they store for us, as well as discussing the importance of letting trees grow and if weβre building dens we use sticks already on the ground π³π³π³π³
